As a result of research, smoking facts related to health are well established, whilst in our grandparents’ day, many facts about smoking were unknown. More teenage girls smoke than do boys in the same age group, about 24% of fifteen year old girls as opposed to 16% of boys. And the younger a person starts, the more likely she is to die prematurely as a direct result of smoking.

The incidence of minor illnesses is also increased in smokers, due to the immune system being compromised. In fact smoking affects just about every part of the human body. And it’s likely to shorten you life by anything from 10 to 20 years.

Smoking Statistics – Some Alarming Facts and Stats on Smoking Acts!

 

Smoking stats indicate that on an annual basis, in the United States, there are in excess of 2.4 million deaths. Out of these, over 440,000 could well be preventable. These are the result of premature deaths attributed to cigarette smoking. One of the reasons for this is the chronic illnesses that smokers are more susceptible to – illnesses that develop from a build-up of fatty plaques in the arteries, better known as arthrosclerosis. Obstructive pulmonary disease and various kinds of cancer are also now known to be caused as the direct result of smoking. Whilst the overall number of people who smoke is falling, young people are taking it up in greater numbers – despite the bans of advertising of cigarettes and the campaigns aimed directly at young people to either stop smoking or to not start in the first place. Smoking facts that have been collected indicate that more than 80% of people start smoking before they reach the age of 19.

Two interesting but rather shocking smoking facts reveal that if you take a person who starts smoking on their 19th birthday and who smokes their way through 20 cigarettes a day for the next twenty years, at today’s prices that person would have smoked their way through 37,000 which is enough, in many locations in Britain, to purchase 50% of a house. Another chemical is ammonia which is added to cigarettes to enhance the flavor. Ammonia also makes nicotine more addictive. This list is not exclusive and there is a far longer list, but these few are enough to give an indication as to the toxic nature of a single cigarette. Smoking And Lung Cancer – The True Facts

The bad news is that smoking increases your risk of developing lung cancer. And I can tell you that 90% of lung cancer deaths in men and 80% of lung cancer deaths in women are linked with smoking. And lung cancer is not the only cancer related to smoking. Strong links have been shown between smoking and cancer of the mouth, the larynx, the esophagus, the bladder, the stomach and the kidneys. Think deeper: Can you be sure, that you do always smell good, if you are not able to smell properly? As a matter of fact you will only be able to smell the difference when you stop smoking. The common belief is that lung cancer only affects people who smoke. The truth of the matter is that even innocent people exposed towards the smoke that is generated from smoking. Smoking Facts Many People Never Hear About

 

According to WHO smoking is the second major cause of death in the world today, actually 10% of all adults dying is caused by smoking.

If nothing is done to change smoking patterns, 10 million people will die from smoking in the year 2020, and the problem is only growing.

The damage from tobacco to the worldwide economy is devastating, not to mention the direct impact it has in health expenses trying to minimize the damage, smoking also kills loads of people at the height of their productive years, thereby causing severe economical damage.

A 1994 report estimated that the use of tobacco resulted in an annual global net loss of US$ 200 billion, a third of this loss being in developing countries, just imagine what that number have grown to by todays standards?

The biggest part of the problem lies in the under developed countries and in the middle to low income groups, even though smoking actually started as a pastime for the rich and wealthy upper class people.

Most smokers begin smoking before they are 25, and looking at trends and smoking facts it seems they are only getting younger by the minute. The part of the world that seems to suffer the most is eastern Europe where apparently 59% of the adult male population are smoking, and even more women smoke here than in Asia or the pacific region.
